The Story Behind The Artist: The Journey Of Sober Teddy

Emerging from the Los Angeles and San Fernando Valley areas, Sober Teddy is one of the most original and versatile, up and coming artist on the West Coast.

With a mixed Black and Guatemalan background, Sober Teddy grew up between Hollywood and East Hollywood, with family roots in South Central Los Angeles. Around the age of 11, he moved to North Hollywood, giving him a different perspective on life throughout the city and the Valley.

Some of his earliest memories are tied to his grandfather’s shop near 52nd and Normandie and around 64th and Normandie in South Central. Spending time there helped shape his early experiences and connection to Los Angeles. Growing up across different neighborhoods gave him a broader perspective on the city and the experiences that would eventually influence his music.

Musically, Sober Teddy draws inspiration from some of hip-hop’s most influential names. Growing up, he listened to West Coast legends like Tupac and Snoop Dogg, along with Biggie. Lil Wayne, whom he considers his favorite rapper, also played a major role in inspiring him to pursue music himself.

Although he began experimenting with music around the age of 18, it took time for him to fully commit to the craft. About a year ago, he decided to take his career seriously and put more focus into developing himself as an artist.

One thing that separates Sober Teddy is his willingness to explore different sounds rather than limit himself to one lane. His music ranges from rap and hip-hop to records inspired by his relationship with God. He has also been exploring reggaeton, with plans to eventually branch into pop and alternative rock.

Regardless of the genre, his goal remains the same: to create music that means something. Drawing from his personal experiences and the things he has gone through in life, he wants listeners to hear more than just a song. He wants there to be a real story behind the music.

Behind the scenes, platinum engineer DG has played an important role in helping Sober Teddy develop his sound. Recording his released music with DG has been a major part of his growth, giving him guidance as he continues to find his direction as an artist.

Outside of music, Sober Teddy keeps a relatively low profile. Although he has spent time throughout Los Angeles and the Valley, he prefers keeping to himself and spending time with his close circle rather than constantly being outside.

His latest project, Don’t Kill Me, Vol. 1, marks another step in his journey. The project’s lead single, “Dumbdidium,” has already caught the attention of local DJ Carisma and Power 106 radio host Rosecrans Vic, giving him additional momentum as he continues pushing his music. With the single currently at the forefront of his campaign, Sober Teddy is also preparing to shoot another music video while deciding which record to push next.

As he continues building his career, Sober Teddy remains grateful for the people who have supported him along the way. He gives special recognition to his mother and brothers, who have consistently encouraged him to pursue music, along with his family, friends, and DG for their continued support.
