Raised on the rough north side of Houston, Texas, Lil Kermit learned early that life would not come easy. His childhood was marked by challenges that many people never experience. His mother spent much of his youth incarcerated before eventually passing away, leaving a void that shaped much of his upbringing. With his mother absent, he was primarily raised by his older brother, who was fighting a battle of his own while battling cancer.
Watching his brother struggle for his life while still finding the strength to help raise him left a lasting impact. Those experiences taught Lil Kermit resilience, responsibility, and the importance of never giving up, no matter how difficult the circumstances become.
Music found its way into his life at an early age. Growing up, he was heavily influenced by legendary artists like 2Pac, whose storytelling and authenticity resonated deeply with him. Closer to home, Houston rap icon Slim Thug became another major inspiration. The connection felt even more personal knowing that his brother had attended high school with the Houston legend.
Those influences helped shape Lil Kermit’s own approach to music. Rather than creating songs for trends, he focused on telling real stories rooted in personal experiences, struggles, victories, and growth.
As he got older, music became an outlet during some of life’s toughest moments. Whenever the world around him felt uncertain, creating music gave him direction. His passion led him to record music in various locations across the United States as he traveled, constantly expanding his sound and perspective.
When he’s not on the road, his college campus serves as one of his favorite local hangout spots. It’s where he continues building relationships, networking, and developing both personally and professionally.
His dedication has produced impressive results. As an independent artist, Lil Kermit has built a catalog of more than 300 songs and accumulated over half a million streams worldwide. Songs such as “360,” “You Gotta,” and “Go” have helped establish his growing fanbase, while his latest release, “Brakes,” continues to showcase his evolution as an artist.
His journey, however, has not been without adversity. Lil Kermit is currently on supervised probation connected to a case that changed his life forever. Determined to stand on his truth, he took the State of Texas to trial over accusations he knew were false. Although he was ultimately found innocent of the original allegations, the experience left a permanent mark on his life. Instead of allowing the situation to define him, he used it as fuel to push harder toward his goals.
Outside of music, Lil Kermit is equally focused on creating opportunities for others. He works alongside college students to help grow a pressure washing business that teaches entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and self-sufficiency. The venture also carries a deeper mission. Thirty percent of its proceeds are donated to the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation.
The cause is personal. Lil Kermit battles Crohn’s disease himself and understands firsthand the importance of awareness, support, and medical research. Through his business efforts, he hopes to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others facing similar challenges.
His creativity extends beyond music as well. As a published author, he continues sharing his experiences through writing, using another platform to inspire and connect with people navigating difficult circumstances.
Whether through songs, books, or business ventures, the message remains the same. Lil Kermit wants young people to understand that their beginnings do not determine their future. No matter how many obstacles stand in the way, it is still possible to build something meaningful.
With a growing catalog, a dedicated independent fanbase, and ambitions of collaborating with Empire in the future, Lil Kermit continues to prove that perseverance can transform pain into purpose.
