Growing up in East New York, Brooklyn, Kocky Ka was raised in an environment he describes as “the trenches.” The neighborhood was gritty, but it was also home. It was where he grew up surrounded by family, friends, sports, music, and experiences that would eventually shape the person and artist he became.
Kocky Ka was raised in a large, close-knit family with both of his parents in the household. Family played an important role in his upbringing, giving him a strong foundation while life outside the home exposed him to a different side of the world.
At a young age, Kocky Ka found himself balancing two very different environments. Around the age of 11, he was already “jumping off the porch,” spending time outside with older friends while still remaining connected to his family and the church. He was active in church, singing in the choir, an experience that gave him structure and played a major role in his musical development.
His father was also a major influence. Kocky Ka describes him as a father who believed in tough love. Rather than simply giving his son everything he wanted, his father taught him to work for it. His message was simple: “You got to go get it.” That mindset helped Kocky Ka develop a sense of independence and self-reliance that would later become important in his music career.
His father also introduced him to basketball, another major part of his life growing up. Sports became one of the ways Kocky Ka spent his time, and basketball tournaments became a regular part of his world. In East New York, he saw people around him either playing basketball or making music, and eventually both worlds became part of his own story.
Music had always been around Kocky Ka, but for a long time, it was simply something he did naturally. He had been making music for years without necessarily treating it as a full-time career. That began to change after his cousin introduced him to recording in a booth for the first time. The experience helped him take the next step from simply having a love for music to seriously developing himself as a rapper.
While basketball remained a major part of his life, music eventually started taking over. Kocky Ka began releasing freestyles, and some of those records started going viral. The attention quickly grew beyond his neighborhood, with established artists beginning to reach out to him. For Kocky Ka, those moments became confirmation that music could be more than just a passion. It could actually become his career.
He also understood that talent alone wasn’t enough. Kocky Ka became intentional about networking, personally reaching out to artists and people already established in the industry. Instead of waiting for opportunities to come to him, he went after them. That approach became an important part of his journey and helped create connections that opened more doors.
Then came one of the most difficult chapters of his life.
Kocky Ka lost his father, changing his life in a way that words couldn’t easily explain. Going from seeing his father every day to suddenly having to live without him left a deep void. The loss became a source of pain, but instead of allowing that pain to stop him, Kocky Ka eventually turned it into music.
That pain became especially clear through his viral “Proud Of Me” freestyle. The record connected with listeners because it came from a real place. His connection with Fridayy and Meek Mill around that period helped take the moment even further, solidifying Kocky Ka’s presence and showing him that his story and his music could reach people far beyond Brooklyn.
In 2025, Kocky Ka continued building on that momentum with the release of his album Street Therapy. The project featured records including “Dark Nights (Remix),” “Time To Heal,” “Down For Too Long,” “On My Way,” “All I Ever Wanted,” and more. The title itself reflected much of what his journey had become—using music as an outlet to process life, pain, growth, and everything that came with his experiences.
Today, Kocky Ka continues to move forward while carrying the lessons he learned growing up. The discipline from his family, the structure he gained through church, the competitive mindset from basketball, and the tough-love lessons from his father all became pieces of the artist he is now.
His latest release, “Shame On Me” featuring Tsu Surf, adds another chapter to that story and is available now on all streaming platforms.
