Emerging out of Orlando, Florida, OMI Blue is an artist whose journey into music began with a love for basketball. Before stepping into the studio, she spent much of her childhood on the court, developing dreams of one day playing in the WNBA. Although her path eventually took a different direction, that same drive found a new outlet through music.
Growing up, OMI Blue was heavily involved in basketball. She played from a young age, participating in Junior Magic, AAU, and middle school basketball. Her dedication to the game even earned her a place in a book recognizing some of the best basketball players. At the time, her focus was on taking her talents as far as possible, with hopes of turning her passion into a professional career.
Music, however, had already been a part of her life. She started playing around with freestyles at just seven years old, although she didn’t have her first studio session until she was 14. As she grew older, music began to take on a different meaning. When she could no longer pursue basketball the way she had envisioned, she turned to music as an outlet. What started as a way to express herself eventually grew into something bigger than she expected.
Her musical influences reflect a wide range of sounds. Growing up, she listened to artists such as Miguel, Jeezy, Rick Ross, The Isley Brothers, 2 Chainz, and T.I. Those different styles helped shape her musical perspective as she began discovering her own voice.
When describing her sound, OMI Blue compares herself to a chameleon. Her ability to blend her voice and lyrics with different instrumentals allows her to move between sounds without being confined to one style. That versatility gives her the freedom to explore different directions while maintaining her own identity as an artist.
Orlando has also played an important role in her journey. One of the places she remembers most from her childhood is Barnett Park, where her father would take her and her siblings on Saturdays to play basketball. Those weekends became part of the memories that shaped her early years and connection to the city.
Another memorable location was the tattoo shop next to Evan’s, where she spent time networking and connecting with people. The spot became a place where she could build relationships and stay active in her creative environment. She even filmed a music video for her song “Loner” there, adding another chapter to her connection with the area.
As her music career developed, OMI Blue continued working on her sound and building her catalog. Approximately 90% of the music she’s released has been recorded at 212 in Altamonte Springs, Florida, making the studio an important part of her creative process.
Her latest release, “Oversaturation,” gives listeners a look at what she’s currently bringing to the table. With more music on the way, she’s preparing to release her upcoming EP, “The Deep Blue,”scheduled to arrive next month.
As she continues to develop as an artist, OMI Blue remains grateful for the people who have supported her journey from the beginning. She gives thanks to everyone who has offered encouragement, positivity, and belief in her dreams, along with the team she’s been working with along the way.
