Born in San Diego and raised in a military family, D$uave grew up knowing what it meant to move around. His childhood took him from San Diego to Las Vegas, where he spent six years, before eventually settling in Southern California. Although he lived in different places, the Inland Empire became the area that shaped him the most.
He spent much of his youth around Murrieta, Riverside, and Corona, growing up in an environment filled with different personalities, lifestyles, and experiences. Those surroundings would eventually become part of the story he tells through his music.
At a young age, D$uave was already around the party and street culture of the Inland Empire. He remembers being around pimps, drug dealers, players, and people who introduced him to a different side of life. He was also part of a clique called “FLIP,” which stood for “Fuck Love, I’m Pimpin.” During those years, he and his friends were everywhere — from the IE to Las Vegas — throwing kickbacks, promoting parties, and taking part in the jerk movement that was making its way through the culture at the time.
He was also part of a group called Star Mob, surrounded by a circle of homies who were creating their own movement and having fun with it. Those experiences became an important part of his upbringing and gave him plenty of memories that would later influence his personality and music.
D$uave started making music at 15 years old. At first, he went by the name D Sav, but that name didn’t last long. A homie told him he couldn’t use it because of gang-related reasons, forcing him to find something new.
The name that eventually stuck came from a family trip to Palm Springs.
While on the trip, D$uave was doing what came naturally to him — talking to women, being himself, and showing off the personality and charisma people had always known him for. His aunt began calling him “Suave D” and “D Suave,” and something about the name immediately felt right.
When he returned to school that summer, he started telling people to call him D$uave. From there, the name stuck.
The artist behind the name has always drawn inspiration from different sides of hip-hop. He names Mac Miller, Drake, Dom Kennedy, Nipsey Hussle, and Lil Wayne among the artists he has looked up to over the years. Each represents a different quality he appreciates, from songwriting and versatility to authenticity, presence, and the ability to build something that lasts.
Now representing the Inland Empire, D$uave is focused on building his own lane and continuing to release music. His most recent track, “Reason,” is available on all major streaming platforms, with more singles expected throughout the summer. He also has a potential album in the works that could feature a few major collaborations.
One person D$uave makes sure to credit along the way is his longtime homie Legacy, who produced many of his early records and continues to play an important role in his music.
Legacy was behind D$uave’s very first single, “Can’t Get Enough,” which he created at a young age while the two were still in high school. That first record became the starting point for a journey that D$uave is still building on today.
