The Heart Behind the Songs: Alicia Creti’s Story of Growth and Purpose

Born and raised in Montreal, Canada, Alicia Creti grew up in a close-knit family where responsibility came naturally. From an early age, she developed a deep protective bond with her younger brother, often feeling a strong need to look out for him and make sure he was okay. That relationship would later become one of the most meaningful inspirations behind her songwriting and artistic identity.

While family played a major role in shaping her character, music became the place where she learned to express herself. As a child, Creti sang, wrote songs, and learned to play piano. Creating music felt natural, giving her an outlet for emotions she often struggled to put into words.

Growing up in Montreal, she balanced her artistic passion with the expectations that often come with pursuing a traditional career path. By the time she reached high school, she felt increasing pressure to focus on fields like finance or science. Following that path, she enrolled at Concordia University, where she majored in Business.

Even while studying, music never left her life. College became a period of self-discovery, and songwriting remained her emotional escape. Whether she was dealing with personal challenges, relationships, or simply trying to understand herself, writing songs helped her process everything she was feeling.

Many of those experiences would later become the foundation of her music. Creti has often described songwriting as a mirror of her inner world, using it to explore heartbreak, vulnerability, personal growth, and self-discovery. Rather than hiding her emotions, she leaned into them.

One of the biggest inspirations in her life remained her brother. Their deep and complex relationship would eventually influence some of her most personal work, including songs that reflected her protective nature and the emotional bond they share.

Like many aspiring artists, Creti’s breakthrough arrived unexpectedly.

It began with a cover of Summer Walker’s “Session 32.” After posting her rendition online, the video quickly gained attention and went viral. Encouraged by the response, she continued sharing covers before eventually introducing original music. As her audience grew, so did recognition from established artists including Meghan Trainor, Summer Walker, Kehlani, and Sam Smith.

The momentum forced her to confront a difficult reality.

“I didn’t know anybody in Montreal that produced or recorded music. I was miserable,” she admitted when reflecting on that period of her life.

When the COVID-19 pandemic arrived during her final year of university, she found herself isolated at home with time to think about what she truly wanted. The answer was clear.

Music.

While finishing her degree, she realized that business school wasn’t fulfilling her. The songs kept coming, and for the first time, she stopped trying to ignore them. Determined to pursue her passion, Creti accelerated her studies, graduated as quickly as possible, and began focusing entirely on music.

As opportunities continued to grow, she found herself making frequent trips to Los Angeles while working on her debut project. The city quickly became a second home. Surrounded by producers, writers, executives, and creatives, she recognized that relocating would give her access to the resources and connections needed to elevate her career.

The move proved to be a turning point.

Eventually, Creti signed with Atlantic Records, giving her a platform to bring her vision to a wider audience.

In 2024, she introduced listeners to her debut project, SELF/LESS. The EP was built around themes of vulnerability, self-reflection, and authenticity. Inspired by her decision to stop living for the expectations of others and start prioritizing her own needs, the project showcased an artist learning how to embrace her true self. It also highlighted the emotional experiences and family relationships that had shaped her journey.

Another major influence on Creti’s artistic development came from British singer Mahalia. During college, Mahalia’s music became the soundtrack to countless moments shared with friends. Years later, getting the opportunity to tour with an artist she had admired for so long felt like a full-circle moment and further reinforced how far her journey had come.

Now, Alicia Creti enters a new chapter with her latest project, MINDFIELDS.

The eight-track release features no guest appearances, placing her voice, stories, and emotions front and center. It’s a project that reflects the growth of an artist who has learned to trust herself completely. Every song stands on its own, allowing listeners to connect directly with her experiences, thoughts, and perspective.

From a young girl writing songs and playing piano in Montreal to an artist signed to a major label and building an international audience, Alicia Creti’s story is one of persistence, vulnerability, and self-belief.

And with MINDFIELDS, she’s proving that the most powerful music often comes from simply telling the truth.
