Fatherhood, Purpose, and Persistence: The Story of VOKAB SPARKS

For VOKAB SPARKS, music was never something he discovered later in life—it was there from the very beginning.

Growing up in Kansas City, Missouri, Sparks was surrounded by sound and culture. His father, a Marine and DJ, helped shape his earliest understanding of music by filling their home with a wide range of records. One day it might be The Beatles, the next it could be Tupac. That variety gave him more than just musical taste—it taught him how music could carry emotion, tell stories, and connect people from completely different worlds.

At the same time, Sparks was building discipline through musicianship of his own. He spent years in the woodwind section, learning the importance of practice, precision, and patience. Those early lessons sharpened his ear and laid the foundation for the artist he would eventually become.

But life in Kansas City also came with hard lessons.

Like many young men trying to find their way, Sparks spent part of his youth hustling and navigating environments that demanded toughness. The city raised him in ways both good and difficult. He spent time at familiar neighborhood spots that became part of his story—places like Jimmy D’s on Prospect Boulevard, The Green Duck, and a small hole-in-the-wall spot called Old Folks, the first place where he ever ordered a drink. Those places weren’t just hangout spots; they were pieces of the culture that helped shape his perspective.

These days, when he returns home, the energy feels different.

His go-to spot is now The Juke House on 18th & Vine, where his younger brother, DJ Foots, keeps the atmosphere alive behind the turntables. He also spends time in the Power and Light District, appreciating how the city continues to evolve while staying rooted in its identity.

That same balance between roots and growth defines his music.

Under Midcoast Entertainment, Sparks leads T.U.R.F. MUSIC, a movement built on independence, culture, and real-life experience. T.U.R.F. is more than branding—it represents a mindset. His sound blends Latin rhythm, jazz influence, Southern drums, and raw hip-hop storytelling. The result feels deeply connected to Kansas City while carrying a global energy that reaches far beyond city limits.

His music speaks to people who built something from nothing.

There’s no pretending in his records. No empty bravado. Instead, Sparks writes from experience—mistakes made, lessons learned, and the constant work of becoming better. Themes of accountability, resilience, and growth run through his music because they reflect his real life.

Nothing fuels that purpose more than fatherhood.

As a single father raising a young Black man, Sparks sees leadership as daily responsibility. His biggest inspiration today is his 18-year-old son, Popoutje. Watching his son walk into the studio and record with confidence changed something in him. Seeing that hunger firsthand forced Sparks to raise his own standard.

In his eyes, if his son can show up and put in the work, he has no excuse not to do the same.

That perspective transformed music from passion into purpose.

His career has continued to grow through major milestones, including opening for Waka Flocka in Arkansas—an experience that proved his music could move large crowds and connect beyond his hometown. Still, he views accomplishments as checkpoints, not destinations. The focus remains on longevity, ownership, and building something that lasts.

Studio work remains a major part of his process.

While he enjoys working in different creative spaces, his home for recording is Rio Callix Studios in Chicago, Illinois. Led by producer Rio Callix, the studio has become central to crafting the Midcoast Entertainment sound. Sparks has also recorded in Kansas City—the first place he ever stepped into a studio—as well as affiliate studios across Houston and Colorado, allowing his sound to continue evolving.

His latest release, “No Help,” featuring Young Sal, represents another step forward. The remix adds even more weight with a feature from multi-platinum artist Mr. Serv-On, known for his work with No Limit Records. The track appears on his latest project, The Beginning of the End Vol. 1, with a deluxe version on the way featuring the remix and additional bonus tracks.

The momentum is real.

New visuals are being developed, fresh music is on the way, and the next chapter for Midcoast Entertainment continues to expand. But for VOKAB SPARKS, success has never been about chasing hype or validation.

It’s about legacy.

It’s about building something his son can inherit with pride. It’s about honoring family, growth, and the lessons that came through struggle. Above all, it’s about purpose.

VOKAB SPARKS gives credit where it belongs—to his son for riding beside him on this journey, to his family for believing in him when he struggled to believe in himself, and to God for providing the vision, perseverance, and strength to keep growing.

Stay on the lookout for the deluxe version set to release August 10TH 2026, and you can catch VOKAB SPARKS Performing live next month at the Fleet DJ conference in Florida.
